Matina Karastatira
I am a UK-trained music therapist and a Fellow of the Association for Music and Imagery (AMI). I am interested in how music and imagery can help people listen inwardly, find steadiness, and make sense of their experience.
In my work with adolescents, I draw from the continuum model of Guided Imagery and Music, using adapted music and imagery processes within educational settings. At times this work is combined with free improvisation, allowing music to be a place for expression, exploration, and connection.
My way of working has been informed by Music Breathing with Dag Körlin and further studies in Supportive Music and Imagery and Re-educative Music and Imagery with Lisa Summer. Alongside this, I work as a music therapist in primary and secondary schools with children and young people with special educational needs.
I am developing my private practice and welcome adults seeking support through periods of overwhelm, life change, or uncertainty, as well as those curious about using music and imagery for deepening self-understanding, creativity, and personal growth. I offer sessions online (globally) and in person in London.
