Therapeutic Arts Institute offers training in The Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) and Focused Music Imagery (FMI) as music centered approaches to human growth and development within a framework of transpersonal, Jungian, and psychodynamic theoretical understanding and built on the foundation of the transformational power of music.  Our training in The Bonny Method of GIM as developed and taught by Helen L. Bonny, PhD honors Dr. Bonny's vision of music and consciousness as opening to psychological, emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of individuals and the collective and is viewed as a inhererently psychospiritual approach. Focused Music Imagery (FMI) is taught as a modification of GIM that is suitable for a wide range of clinical applications and exponentially expands the the population that can benefiit from music and Imagery. Ths mulitiple component training leads to eligibility to apply to the Association for Music and Imagery (AMI) for the status of Fellow of AMI (FAMI).  Our training is in three phases:

1. GIM Level I: Introduction to the Bonny Method of GIM and Focused Music Imagery (FMI).

2. Professional Training in Focused Music Imagery (FMI). FMI is based on the premise that short contained music experiences are a powerful way to bring the benefits of music-evoked imagery to a broad range of individuals for personal growth, supportive and reeducative psychotherapy, wellness and spiritual enhancement. This certificate program consists of two seminars on FMI applications for individual and group therapy.  FMI Training is prerequisite for the Advanced GIM Internship and may also be taken as a stand-alone training. (Formerly Level II.)

3. Advanced Training in the Bonny Method of GIM: The Internship. The Internship is a comprehensive 2 1/2 to 3 year program leading to eligibility for Fellow of the AMI. Major areas of learning are understanding the dynamics of the transformational power of music, development of guiding skills in various states of consciousness, myth and archetype, GIM and spirituality (Formerly Level III.)
